Capiz shell comes from the windowpane oyster, scientifically known as Placuna placenta, found in the warm coastal waters of the Philippines.

Naturally white, cream, or beige, Capiz shells are known for their translucent quality and soft iridescence. Traditionally, they were used as window panels in Filipino homes, allowing natural light to enter while maintaining privacy. Today, they remain an important material in Filipino handicrafts.
